Photography on a Small Income
Recognised for his black and white travel and documentary photography, James Allan Cash, or J Allan Cash, as he was better known was born in Bucklow, Cheshire, England, UK.
His original employment was as a radio engineer, before becoming a photographer, writer and owner of the photo agency J. Allan Cash Limited.
Having had a love for adventure since a young age, in 1923 Cash left England and travelled to Canada, to work for the broadcasting station of the Northern Electric Co.
While there, his interest in photography grew stronger and in 1929, he decided to try and earn a living as a freelancer. Making his way back to England, Cash travelled through Eastern Europe in the 1930s, recording his adventures with a Leica camera.
